Sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and a number of private associations and government agencies, Operation Safe Driver will step up surveillance and inspections on North American roads, with a special focus on distracted and aggressive commercial drivers.

New Jersey school bus hauling kindergartners loses brakes and crashes

A school bus carrying two kindergarten classes and six chaperones rolled backward down a steep hill and crashed in Montclair, New Jersey, Tuesday after losing its brakes. The incident sent three of the adults and two children to the hospital with injuries to the neck, knee, and contusions to the head.

Roadcheck 2010 results show record levels of compliance

Early results from the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Roadcheck 2010 found that the industry is close to the record low out-of-service rates set during 2009. Trucks are placed out of service when inspectors deem them to be in serious or repeat violation of federal safety standards. Low out-of-service rates mean that more trucks are complying with rules and .

Note to CMV drivers: Roadcheck 2010 takes place June 8-10

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) will help mobilize thousands of roadside inspectors who patrol American and Canadian highways June 8-10 for Roadcheck 2010. Approximately 14 trucks and buses will be inspected every minute during the intense three-day campaign. Typically, 20 percent of vehicles are found in violation of federal safety standards and placed out of service, based on Roadchecks in previous years.
